A couple of positional and rink changes just to try and freshen it up for Saturday, still a real lack of players to adjust squad, surely there must be some players in Stewartry who would like the honour of representing the county.

Re-arranged game on a cold and what ended up damp night at Kirkcudbright on Wednesday 22nd May.

Dumfriesshire got off to a really good start and led from the first few ends at one point building up a lead of 32 shots on the big board. Stewartry had to dig deep and from the 12 end mark started to cut into the Dumfriesshire lead. Keith Shuttleworth had a very good win with his rink of Kirkcudbright lads and Wig of course and kept a winning margin all game – thanks for helping out Keith. Graeme Maxwell recorded his second victory in a very tight and the award for noisiest game on the green – well done Natch. Scott Davies came up against a very in form Steven Lowther and despite his rink building some positive heads the Dumfries rink kept a strong grip of game – keep it going Sharkey it will come. Scott McCubbin has been working with a very inexperience squad and all credit to them for working hard to keep in the game and at the end there was only 4 shots in it – hard luck Cubby. Alan Davies rink got off to the worst possible start and Rae Graham is not one to miss chances and went well ahead by 11 shots, Alan’s rink then rallied well and Barney played a big bowl on the last end to cut a 4 down to 2 and win by 4 shots – you’ll get your deserved win Matteo. Finally another close contest on rink 1 saw Steven Richardson go down narrowly to Martyn Rice by 2 shots, with a young lead and first time sub skip this was a great effort – well done Reech.

Overall a narrow defeat like the first game, this time we didn’t start well but finished really well let’s put both parts of our good game together for Saturday.

Dunbartonshire East 106 v 100 Stewartry

Rinks scores

Season started on Saturday up at Lenzie on what was a very decent green considering the weather we have had recently. Game started with Dunbartonshire taking a good early lead and the fresh Stewartry rinks taking time to get to grips with the tricky rinks. Dunbartonshire went ahead by 15 shots by end 5 and held the lead through to 10 ends but reduced to 4 shots. Stewartry then had the best of the game over next 7 ends and at one point went 14 shots up. This was always going to be a tight game and Dunbartonshire fought back to level in last 2 ends across the green, that momentum was enough to see them push on and win by 6 shots. Game could have gone either way but credit and best wishes to Dunbartonshire on what was a really sporting game.

As you can see we are very short on numbers for first couple of weeks and I would still like a few more names to give the squad some depth, so if any club members would like to put their names forward please call Hugh on 07425622104.

A big thank you to players who have come in at short notice for this first week or two to ensure we have a team to start the campaign and I hope all those who are able to will be available later in season.
